Dear Yuletide Writer

Dear Yuletide Writer,

thank you so much for signing up to write in one of my fandoms this year! I'm rusty on exchanges, but truly excited to see what is under the tree for me. I'll try to keep the letter brief, and know the optional details are optional!

General likes:
-silliness, joy, friendship, romance, happy endings, adventures, found families, making the Yuletide queer.
I enjoy spookiness, holiday stories, and creative AU settings/retellings.
I'm fine with all ratings from G-E and am happy to receive porn or holiday-themed fic if that's your jam - but that should be considered VERY optional.

General dislikes:
Please avoid the biggies: character death*, non-con or dub-con, incest, animal harm or death.
Please avoid explicit homophobia, transphobia, racism, sexism, or gender essentialism.
*character death is pretty much any character death, even minor and canon-consistent. I had a close personal loss recently and I need distance from death right now. Referenced canon death is fine but please don't make it a big deal.

Fandom specifics-

10th Kingdom:
(any characters)
This is one of the fandoms that never really leaves my heart. I would be thrilled to receive ANY story occurring in the 9 Kingdoms, or following our main cast of characters living in New York and balancing their disparate realities. If you're hoping for bunnies/a little more suggestions, some things I would especially love include:
- Prince Wendell's growth as a leader and as a human re-learning how to be human
- Tony's career developments in the 9 Kingdoms, whether they be bouncing castles, magic mirror repair work (I could see this going delightfully wrong!), or others
- Any Virginia/Wolf interactions: adjusting to life in New York, visiting home and discovering Wolf has some unfinished business there, couples therapy, or an intimate encounter.
- A deeper exploration into magic mirrors. I am honestly obsessed with the Queen's different mirrors and would gladly follow in any sort of magic mirror direction.
For this fandom, I would appreciate it if you could avoid unhappily-ever-afters or anything heavy on the Christine angst.

Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World (2003):
(Jack Aubrey, Stephen Maturin)
Another fandom that forms a huge part of my heart. I cannot overstate my love for the leads, whether you choose to take it in a platonic or slashy direction. This is a canon that just ticks so many boxes the only prompt I want to give is "more" - more Galapagos, more music, more push and pull between Jack and Stephen and their varying objectives and obligations. Super happy with any sort of missing scene or postscript/continuation, and I don't mind things getting dicey and medical. Note: I read the first Aubrey/Maturin novel shortly after the film came out, but never really continued with them - so while I don't mind plot inspirations etc. from the books, I won't be familiar with much you bring in,
Possible prompts include:
- Returning to the Galapagos
- Stephen acting as Jack's conscience
- Unexpected detours
For this fandom, I would appreciate no explicit character death (including minor characters) - please avoid battles with casualties, &c.

Oxford Time Travel Universe - Connie Willis:
(Ned Henry, Verity Kindle)
To Say Nothing of the Dog is, you guessed it, one of my very favorite fandoms, and I reread it every two years or so. While I have read and loved the Doomsday Book, the darker parts of this universe have to be taken in very small doses for me, and this year I am interested in fic that is mostly lighthearted and charming. Things I especially love about TSNotD include the comedy of manners style, the entire seance scene, and the sly way the reader is able to figure things out well before a time-lagged Ned - so things that hit upon similarly silly moods and encounters would be right up my alley. Possible prompts include:
- any missing scenes from their stay in the Victorian era, or revisiting after a while to see how Tossie and Baine are getting along
- Ned and Verity are getting married, but their own bishop's bird stump (or comparable MacGuffin) has gone missing!
- Ned, Verity, or both are far too time-lagged to go on another drop, but persuading them of this is another matter.
For this fandom, I'm glad to see other characters make appearances, but please keep the focus light and avoid the death-filled, heavy history stops that compose a lot of the universe.

Again, thank you so much, and I greatly look forward to receiving my gift!

comments
